The_Centre_of_Social_Medicine_and_Community_Health_at_Jawaharlal_Nehru_University,_was_started_in_1971_with_the_mandate_of_evolving_the_contours_of_the_discipline_as_suited_to_the_Indian_context_with_all_its_diversity,_and_with_special_attention_to_the_vulnerable_sections._The_experience_of_developing_its_theoretical_base_and_curriculum_for_the_various_teaching_and_research_programmes_offered_by_the_Centre_have_served_well_over_generations_of_students_and_faculty._Many_more_institutions_have_initiated_Public_Health_programmes_and_research,_contributing_immensely_to_the_development_of_the_discipline_and_its_practice._Collaborations_with_many_of_them_have_enriched_our_own_work.
