SLL&CS_has_twelve_centres:_Centre_of_Arabic_and_African_Studies_(CAAS),_Centre_for_Chinese_and_South-East_Asian_Studies_(CCSEAS),_Centre_for_English_Studies_(CES),_Centre_for_French_and_Francophone_Studies_(CFFS),_Centre_of_German_Studies_(CGS),_Centre_of_Indian_Languages_(CIL),_Centre_for_Japanese_Studies_(CJS),_Centre_for_Korean_Studies_(CKS),_Centre_for_Linguistics_(CL),_Centre_of_Persian_and_Central_Asian_Studies_(CPCAS),_Centre_of_Russian_Studies_(CRS),_and_Centre_of_Spanish,_Portuguese,_Italian_and_Latin_American_Studies_(CSPILAS)._Besides,_the_School_also_has_a_well-equipped_Language_Labs_and_Multimedia_Complex_(LLC).
The_different_units_of_the_School_offer_a_variety_of_programmes_in_diverse_subjects._There_are_Certificate,_Diploma,_and_Advanced_Diploma_of_Proficiency_programmes_in_foreign_languages_like_Bahasa_Indonesia,_Italian_(currently_not_on_offer),_Mongolian,_Portuguese_and_Pushtu,_and_also_in_Urdu_language_and_Mass_Media_in_Urdu._The_School_offers_BA_(Hons.),_MA_and_MPhil/PhD_programmes_in_foreign_languages_like_Arabic,_Chinese,_French,_German,_Japanese,_Korean,_Persian,_Russian_and_Spanish._The_School_also_offers_MA_and_MPhil/PhD_programmes_in_English,_Hindi_and_Urdu_literature,_and_in_Linguistics._Apart_from_these,_SLL&CS_offers_MPhil_in_Portuguese,_and_MPhil/PhD_in_Hindi_Translation,_and_in_Tamil._Besides,_the_School_also_offers_optional_courses_in_Greek,_Hebrew_and_Turkish_languages.
Over_and_above_these_existing_programmes,_the_School_has_a_Kannada_Chair,_and_currently_vacant_professorial_positions_in_Bengali,_Assamese_and_Marathi,_and_there_are_concrete_developments_towards_establishing_a_Chair_of_Oriya._Besides_these_formal_programmes,_a_variety_of_Tool/Optional_courses_are_offered_within_the_School,_which_promote_interdisciplinarity._The_School_also_is_at_the_spearhead_of_the_highly_successful_Remedial_Course_in_English_under_the_Linguistic_Empowerment_Cell_to_all_students_of_the_University_who_need_to_increase_their_competence_in_the_language_for_academic_purposes.
Besides_teaching_and_research_activities,_the_School_also_publishes_its_own_journal,_Journal_of_the_School_of_Languages_(JSL),_which_started_publication_in_the_seventies_and_has_over_the_years_published_significant_research_on_literatures,_languages,_culture_studies,_comparative_studies,_and_translation_that_cut_across_language_boundaries._Besides,_some_constituent_units_of_the_School_have_their_own_publications,_like_the_CRS_has_its_journal_Critic,_and_the_CSPILAS_has_its_journal_Hispanic_Horizon.
SLL&CS_produces_the_very_best_scholars_in_the_fields_of_language_teaching,_linguistics,_literature_and_culture_studies,_as_well_as_internationally_acclaimed_translators_and_interpreters._Members_of_the_School,_while_providing_directions_and_visions_to_their_respective_Centres_and_the_School_in_general,_have_also_distinguished_themselves_nationally_and_internationally_by_the_quality_and_range_of_their_individual_research,_publications_and_other_achievements.
