The_School_of_Environmental_Sciences_was_established_in_the_year_1974_and_was_the_first_of_its_kind_in_India_to_impart_education_and_initiate_research_in_environmental_sciences._The_school_has_been_offering_the_M.Phil./Ph.D._Program_since_1975_and_the_Master_of_Science_(M.Sc.)_Program_since_1987_successfully._Ever_since_its_inception,_the_school_has_been_engaged_in_multidisciplinary_research_in_different_areas_of_environmental_sciences_such_as_environmental_biology,_ecology,_environmental_pollution,_earth_sciences,_environmental_modelling,_climate_dynamics,_and_atmospheric_science. _With_the_diverse_academic_and_research_background_of_its_faculty,_the_school_is_uniquely_placed_to_conduct_path_breaking_research_in_environmental_sciences. _Many_of_the_current_and_past_faculty_members_are_known_internationally_for_their_significant_contributions_in_different_fields_of_environmental_sciences._Its_faculty_members_have_received_various_awards,_have_been_the_members_of_different_Science_Academies_and_have_provided_academic_leadership_in_different_educational_and_research_institutions. The_school’s_faculty_has_been_engaged_in_several_national_and_international_collaborative_research_projects,_drawing_financial_resources_from_leading_national_and_international_funding_agencies._This_has_immensely_contributed_to_the_development_of_laboratory_infrastructure_in_the_school._Not_surprisingly,_the_school_has_performed_very_well_in_research_during_the_last_10_years,_having_published_several_hundred_research_articles_in_leading_peer_reviewed_journals_of_international_repute._During_this_period,_more_than_200_students_have_successfully_completed_their_doctoral_degree_from_the_school_and_the_school’s_alumni_have_found_placement_in_different_educational,_research_and_other_institutions_of_the_country_and_abroad._Currently,_the_school_is_ranked_between_301-350_in_QS_World_ranking_by_subject_with_IIT_Bombay,_IIT_Kharagpur_and_Indian_Institute_of_Science_(IISc)_Bangalore_being_the_only_Indian_educational_institutions_ranked_above_it.
