The_School_of_Physical_Sciences_(SPS)_is_one_of_the_leading_departments_of_India_in_research_and_teaching_in_the_fields_of_Physics,_Chemistry_and_Mathematics._Since_its_inception_in_1986,_the_faculty_of_SPS_has_made_significant_contributions_to_these_subjects_as_well_as_to_interdisciplinary_areas_bordering_them. The_School_offers_Ph.D._programmes_in_Physical_and_Chemical_Sciences_and_in_Mathematics._In_addition,_there_are_M.Sc._programmes_in_Physics_(since_1992), _Chemistry_(since_2017)_and _Mathematics_(since_2019). In_Physics,_the_research_emphasis_is_on_Chemical_Physics,_Complex_Fluids,_Disordered_Systems,_Granular_Materials,_Non-equilibrium_Statistical_Mechanics,_Materials_Science,_Magnetism,_Superconductivity,_Semiconductors,_Polymers,_Nano-materials, other_aspects_of_Condensed_Matter_Physics_and Plasma_Astrophysics._Moreover,_Computational_Physics,_Mathematical_Physics,_Nonlinear_Dynamics,_Quantum_Chaos,_Statistical_Nuclear_Physics,_Nonlinear_and_Quantum_Optics,_Neutrino_Physics_and_String_Theory_are_also_active_areas_of_research. The_focus_of_research_in_Chemistry_is_on_Inorganic,_Organic_and_Physical_Chemistry,_in_particular,_on_Supramolecular_Chemistry,_Biophysical_Chemistry,_Bioinorganic_Chemistry,_Medicinal_Chemistry,_Synthetic_Organic_Chemistry,_Organometallics,_Crystal_Engineering,_Ultrafast_and_Single_Molecule_Spectroscopy,_and_Biomolecular_Dynamics. Research_in_Mathematics_focuses_focuses_primarily_on_Algebraic_and_Analytic_Number_Theory,_Arithmetic_Geometry,_Elliptic_Curves,_Dynamical_Systems,_Probability_Theory_on_Groups,_Banach_Algebras_and_Operator_Algebras,_Operations_Research,_Queueing_Theory,_Reliability_Theory,_Computational_Fluid_Dynamics,_Numerical_Simulations,_Heat_and_Mass_Transfer,_Flow_through_Porous_Media,_Fourier_Approximation,_Summability_Theory,_Functional_Analysis,_Operator_Theory,_and_Wavelets.
