p{ text-align:justify; line-height:_19px; font-size:14px; margin-bottom:_15px_!important; } Centre_for_Inner_Asian_StudiesThe_Centre_for_Inner_Asian_Studies,_School_of_International_Studies,_Jawaharlal_Nehru_University_is_engaged_in_teaching_and_research_on_the_whole_of_Central_Asia,_that_is_the_five_Central_Asian_Republics_of_Uzbekistan,_Tajikistan,_Turkmenistan,_Kyrgyzstan_and_Kazakhstan;_Tibet_and_Xinjiang_regions_of_China;_Mongolia_and_Afghanistan,_as_was_being_done_by_the_erstwhile_Central_Asian_Studies_Programme,_Centre_for_South,_Central,_Southeast_Asian_Studies_and_Southwest_Pacific_Studies_from_the_beginning._Over_the_years,_this_Programme_has_evolved_as_the_advanced_Center_of_Central_Asian_Studies_in_India_and_is_known_for_its_excellent_research_work_and_publications_both_at_the_national_and_international_level._This_academic_programme_has_not_only_helped_in_sensitizing_Indian_public_and_official_opinion_about_the_important_developments_taking_place_in_Central_Asia,_but_also_has_contributed_to_strengthen_Indian_cultural_ties_with_its_extended_neighbourhood_in_Central_Asia._Keeping_in_view_its_contribution,_University_Grants_Commission_accorded_in_2001_the_status_of_Area_Studies_Programme_to_this_Programme._The_Ministry_of_External_Affairs,_Government_of_India_started_in_2007_its_scheme_for_the_attachment_of_three_visiting_scholars_from_Central_Asian_Republics_at_this_Programme,_for_each_Semester_(that_is_for_a_period_of_six_months)_on_a_regular_basis._The_university_has_also_allocated_accommodation_for_hosting_these_visiting_scholars_from_the_Central_Asian_Republics,_on_a_regular_basis._All_the_academic_activities_including_teaching_and_research_have_been_designed_to_study_and_analyze_history,_politics,_society,_economy,_geopolitics_of_energy_and_transport_networks,_besides_the_contemporary_developments_in_Central_Asia,_Chinese_Central_Asia,_Afghanistan_and_Mongolia,_and_relate_them_to_Indian_experience_and_policy.Since_1987,_more_than_120_M.Phil_and_85_Ph.D_research_scholars_have_been_engaged_in_research_in_Central_Asian_Studies._Whereas_100_M.Phil_and_53_Ph.D._scholars_have_been_awarded_their_degrees,_20_M.Phils_and_32_Ph.Ds_are_in_progress._Obviously,_there_is_increasing_interest_amongst_the_students_and_the_scholars_in_general_in_the_research_programmes_offered._As_such_the_Centre_for_inner_Asian_Studies_is_striving_to_develop_itself_into_a_centre_of_academic_excellence_so_far_as_the_above_mentioned_areas_are_concerned.
