Institutional_Ethics_Review_Board_for_research_on_Human_subjects_was_constituted_vide_resolution_no._5.3_of_the_Executive_Council_meeting_held_on_3rd_Sept_2008,_as_per_ICMR_guidelines,_to_review_all_research_proposals_submitted_by_the_faculty_members_and_also_M.Phil_/_Ph.D_research_involving_human_participants._The_tenure_of_the_Chairperson_and_the_Member-_Secretary_is_five_years_while_for_the_members_on_the_panel_is_three_years_from_the_date_of_appointment.

A_panel_of_names_in_each_one_of_these_categories_was_also_approved_by_the_EC_in_the_same_meeting_of_the_3rd_Sept_2008,_as_per_ICMR_guidelines_for_research_on_human_subjects._Since_2008_several_project_proposals_and_M.Phil/_Ph.D_research_proposals_were_reviewed_by_committees_constituted_by_the_Chairperson_involving_at_least_one_person_from_each_category_as_specified_in_A_above.A_fresh_panel_of_names_in_each_one_of_the_categories_was_approved_by_the_EC_in_its_meeting_held_on_5th_April_2011,_vide_resolution_number_6.22. _Since_the_Chairperson,_Prof_R.N.K.Bamezai_has_joined_MVDTU,_Jammu_as_Vice_Chancellor,_the_name_of_Prof_Shiv_K.Sarin,_Director,_Institute_of_Liver_and_Biliary_Sciences,_Vasant_Kunj,_New_Delhi,_is_approved_as_Chairperson_for_a_period_of_five_years_from_the_date_of_appointment._Prof_R.N.K.Bamezai_continues_to_be_a_member_of_the_IERB_as_indicated_in_category_4_below,_i._e._as_Researcher_from_Basic_sciences_(internal)._For_the_sake_of_continuity_the_panel_also_includes_names_of_some_of_the_earlier_members_for_another_term. _Every_category_has_a_panel_of_four_to_five_names_so_that_at_least_one_from_each_category_may_be_included_while_constituting_a_committee_for_a_specific_project_review_meeting.B._ The_panel_names_in_each_category_for_a_period_of_three_years_w.e.f._21.12.2023

Every_member_in_the_panel_will_have_a_tenure_of_three_years,_after_which_a_fresh_panel_of_three_names_in_the_same_category_will_be_submitted_to_the_EC,_JNU_so_that_one_out_of_the_three_may_be_appointed_in_place_of_the_retiring_person._For_the_sake_of_continuity_the_Chairperson_and_the_Member-_Secretary_will_have_a_term_of_five_years.
Terms_of_Appointment
As_per_ICMR_guidelines,_the_appointee_will_be_informed_of_the_rights_and_duties_of_the_committee._and_that_the_external_members_will_receive_honorarium_for_every_consultative_meeting_held_on_the_campus.
Process
The_ERC_will_meet_at_least_once_in_two_months/twice_every_semester_or_more_if_required,_to_review_all_the_applications_including_proposals_for_M.Phil/Ph.D._research;_also_including_research_proposals_submitted_by_the_faculty_involving_human_subjects_for_any_kind_of_data. _The_internal_members_of_the_committee_will_screen_the_proposals_before_they_are_circulated_to_the_external_members._The_presence_of_Minimum_five_persons_including_the_Chairperson_and_Member_Secretary_will_be_mandatory_to_conduct_a_meeting.
Certificate
Once_the_IERB_is_satisfied_that_the_study_is_in_no_way_harmful_to_the_subjects_under_study,_the_committee_will_issue_an_Ethical_Clearance_Certificate,_valid_for_the_period_of_study_specified.
The_committee_will_also_advise_the_researcher_about_the_"informed_consent" to_be_obtained_from_the_subjects,_and_"confidentiality"_to_be_maintained_vis-a-vis_subjects.
