Prof._M._Jagadesh_Kumar_is_presently_the_Chairman_of_University_Grants_Commission_and_Professor_of_Electrical_Engineering_at_IIT_Delhi._He_still_teaches_at_IIT_Delhi._He_held_the_NXP_(Philips)_Chair_Professor_established_at_IIT_Delhi_by_Philips_Semiconductors,_Netherlands._He_received_the_2013_Award_for_Excellence_in_Teaching_(in_large_class_category)_from_IIT_Delhi._He_is_a_Fellow_of_Indian_National_Academy_of_Engineering,_The_National_Academy_of_Sciences,_India,_and_The_Institution_of_Electronics_and_Telecommunication_Engineers,_India._He_has_been_awarded_the_29th_IETE_Ram_Lal_Wadhwa_Gold_Medal_for_distinguished_contribution_in_the_field_of_Semiconductor_device_design_and_modeling._He_also_received_the_first_ever_ISA-VSI_TechnoMentor_Award_given_by_the_India_Electronics_&_Semiconductor_Association_to_recognize_a_distinguished_Indian_academician_and_researcher_for_playing_a_significant_role_as_a_mentor_and_researcher._He_is_a_recipient_of_2008_IBM_Faculty_award_in_recognition_of_professional_achievements._He_is_the_Chairman_of_the_Governing_Body_of_National_Council_of_Science_Museums,_Ministry_of_Culture,_Government_of_India._He_is_also_the_President,_General_Council,_National_Assessment_and_Accreditation_Council,_(NAAC)._He_was_the_Twelfth_Vice_Chancellor_of_the_University.

 An_eminent_scientist_and_educationist,_Prof._Sudhir_Kumar_Sopory_began_his_academic_career_in_the_year_1973_as_member_of_the_faculty_of_the_School_of_Life_Sciences,_Jawaharlal_Nehru_University._Prof._Sopory_has_been_awarded_various_National_and_International_Awards_for_his_pioneering_contributions_to_Scientific_Research_and_Teaching._Notable_among_them_are:_the_prestigious_Bhatnagar_Award_of_CSIR,_Chakravorty_Award,_Birbal_Sahni_Medal_of_the_Botanical_Society,_Birbal_Sahni_Birth_Centenary_Award_of_Indian_Science_Congress,Godnev_Award_Lecture_of_Belarus_Academy_of_Sciences,_and_Padma_Shri,_Government_of_India._He_is_an_elected_Fellow_of_the_Indian_National_Science_Academy_(New_Delhi),_Indian_Academy_of_Sciences_(Bangalore),_National_Academy_of_Sciences_(Allahabad),_National_Academy_of_Agricultural_Sciences(New_Delhi)_and_The_World_Academy_of_Sciences_(Trieste,_Italy)._He_has_also_received_the_Corresponding_Membership_Award_of_American_Society_for_Plant_Biology,_2010,_the_first_Indian_to_do_so._He_was_the_Eleventh_Vice_Chancellor_of_the_University.

An_eminent_economist_and_educationist,_Prof._Barid_Baran_Bhattacharya_was_a_leading_expert_on_economic_modeling_and_forecasting._He_held_many_distinguished_positions_such_as_the_Director_of_Institute_of_Economic_Growth,_Delhi._He_served_as_Chairman/Member_of_many_important_Government_of_India_commissions_and_committees_and_in_educational_institutions._He_was_a_member_of_the_Supervisory_Board_of_Foundation_for_Innovation_Politics_in_Paris._He_received_many_awards_and_honors_such_as_Government_of_France’s_Order_de_Palms_Academiques,_Bank_of_Baroda’s_Sun_Lifetime_Achievement_Award,_Kalidasa_Samman,_Socrates_Award_by_European_Business_Council,_and_Mother_Teresa_Lifetime_Achievement_Award_etc._He_was_the_Tenth_Vice_Chancellor_of_the_University.

An_eminent_academician_and_an_economist,_Prof._Gopal_Krishan_Chadha_was_a_member_of_the_Prime_Minister’s_Economic_Advisory_Council._He_was_also_on_the_Consultants’_panel_with_the_Indian_Council_of_Social_Science_Research,_New_Delhi,_Indian_Planning_Commission,_and_the_International_Labour_Organisation,_New_Delhi_Regional_Office,_besides_being_a_life_member_of_all_academic_associations_in_Economics._He_went_on_to_be_the_first_President_of_the_South_Asian_University._He_was_the_Ninth_Vice-Chancellor_of_this_University.

Datta,_Asis

An_eminent_Molecular_Biologist_and_Educationist,_Prof_Asis_Datta_received_the_"Padma_Shree"_award_in_1999_and_the_“Padma_Bhushan”_award_in_2008._He_is_a_recipient_of_the_Shanti_Swarup_Bhatnagar_Prize_and_the_"Priyadarshini_Award"._Prof_Datta_is_an_elected_Fellow_of_all_three_major_Indian_Science_Academies_as_well_as_the_"Third_World_Academy_of_Sciences"._A_winner_of_numerous_other_awards_and_honours,_Prof_Datta_served_the_Government_in_various_capacities._He_was_the_founder_Director_of_the_National_Institute_of_Plant_Genome_Research._He_was_the_eighth_Vice_Chancellor_of_JNU.

An_eminent_economist,_educationist_and_Government_Policy_Advisor,_Prof_Yoginder_K_Alagh_went_on_to_serve_as_a_ Member_of_the_Rajya_Sabha_and_was_appointed_ Minister_of_State_(Independent_Charge)_for_Planning_and_Programme_Implementation,_Science_and_Technology_and_Power._He_was_the_Seventh_Vice-Chancellor_of_this_University_._He_headed_various_institutions_and_Commissions_and_acted_as_expert_with_a_number_of_UN_organisations._He_was_also_the_Member_of_Planning_Commission,_Govt._of_India._He_is_Chancellor_of_the_Central_University_of_Gujarat._He_was_the_seventh_Vice_Chancellor_of_JNU.

An_academician_and_expert_on_West_Asia,_Prof_Mohammed_Shafi_Agwani_had_a_long_association_with_this_University_and_played_an_active_role_in_establishing_the_Center_of_West_Asian_Studies_in_the_School_of_International_Studies._He_strived_to_create_an_environment_in_which_the_faculty_and_students_could_give_their_best._He_was_a_member_of_the_National_Commission_for_Minorities_after_his_Vice_Chancellorship._He_was_the_sixth_Vice_Chancellor_of_JNU.

An_eminent_Scientist_(Life_Sciences)_and_one_of_the_key_architects_of_the_National_Policy_of_education_(1986)_as_well_as_main_proponent_of_the_concept_of_autonomous_colleges,_Prof_P._N._Srivastava,_was_the_fifth_Vice-chancellor_of_the_University._During_his_tenure,_the_University_witnessed_the_change_in_admission_policies_and_started_the_centralised_entrance_examinations._Later,_he_became_the_Member_of_Planning_Commission,_Govt._of_India. He_also_served_as_the_President_of_the_Indian_Science_Congress_Association. 

Nayudamma,_Yelavarthy

A_distinguished_Scientist,_Prof_Yelavarhty_Nayudamma_headed_Central_Leather_research_Inst,Madras_and_was_the_Director_General,_CSIR,_New_Delhi_before_taking_up_the_responsibility_of_Vice-Chancellorship_of_this_University_in_1981._He_was_awarded_many_national_and_international_awards_and_honours,_including Padma_Shri in_1971._He_was_the_fourth_Vice_Chancellor_of_JNU.

Narayanan,_Kocheril_Raman

Prof_Kocheril_Raman_Narayanan_became_the_President_of_the_Republic_of_India._He_was_a_career_diplomat_who_served_the_country_as_ambassador_to_various_countries_like_Thailand,_Turkey_and_China,_having_started_his_career_as_an_academician_and_later_as_a_journalist_(briefly)._He_was_appointed_Ambassador_to_the_USA_after_he_left_JNU._He_was_elected_to_the_Lok_Sabha_for_three_terms_and_served_as_a_Union_Minister_from_1985-89._He_was_elected_Vice_President_of_India_in_1992_and_reached_the_highest_seat_of_the_Republic_in_1997._He_was_the_third_Vice_Chancellor_of_JNU.

An_eminent_academician_and_physicist_(Nuclear_Physics),_Prof_Basanti_Dulal_Nagchaudhury_served_this_country_as_Member_of_the_Planning_Commission_and_also_as_Scientific_Advisor_to_the_Ministry_of_Defense,_the_Director_General_of_Defense_Research_and_Development,_Govt._of_India.Prof_Nagchaudhuri_was_elected_Fellow_of_the_Indian_National_Science_Academy_in_1964,_and_awarded_the_Padma_Vibhushan_in_1975._He_was_the_second_Vice_Chancellor_of_JNU.

A_journalist,_a_renowned_cricketer,_and_a_diplomat_of_repute_who_played_key_advisory_roles_over_three_decades,_spanning_the_eras_from_Nehru_to_Rajiv_Gandhi,_Gopalaswami_Parthasarathy_became_the_first_Vice-Chancellor_of_this_University_in_1969_and_left_an_indelible_mark_as_an_educationist_by_helping_this_University_flourish_as_a_premier_institution_of_inter-disciplinary_studies_and_research._He_founded_the_Indian_Institute_of_Mass_Communication_and_also_served_as_the_Chairman_of_the_ICSSR.
