p{ text-align:justify; line-height:_19px; font-size:14px; margin-bottom:_10px_!important; } List_of_Courses_being_offered_in_Winter_Semester_AY_2021-22 List_of_Courses_being_offered_in_Monsoon_Semester_AY_2021-22 List_of_courses_being_offered _in_Winter_Semester_2021 Zakir_Husain_Centre_for_Educational_Studies_in_the_School_came_into_existence_in_1972._It_was_visualized_as_an_innovative_experiment_for_advanced_teaching_and_research_in_Educational_Studies,_by_the_Education_Commission(1964-66)_and_the_Working_Group_of_the_Jawaharlal_Nehru_University._The_Philosophy_underlying_the_genesis_of_the_Zakir_Husain_Centre_for_Educational_Studies_may_be_traced_to_the_two_observations_made_in_the_Education_Commission_Report_(1964-66)_.. The_quality_of_educational_research_in_the_country_must_improve_and_it_can_improve_if_and_only_if_placed_outside_the_physical_precincts_of_Teachers'_Training_Colleges._The_working_group_on_the_Centre_for_Educational_Studies_(1970)_marked_a_point_of_departure_as_it_envisaged_the_Centre_as_a_team_of_"persons_who_may_preferably_belong_to_different_disciplines,_have_a_high_level_of_basic_competence_in_their_own_fields_and_evince_interest_in_educational_problems"._This_made_space_for_social_sciences_in_particular,_while_not_ruling_out_others_to_accept_the_challenge_of_improving_the_quality_of_educational_research_byformulating_and_participating_in_group_interdisciplinary_programmes_of_teaching_and_research_in_educational_studies._The_working_group_underscored_the_need_for_preparation_by_the_core_faculty_before_launching_a_doctoral_programme. The_Centre's_priority_area_was_identified_as_the_higher_education_sector_as_it_interacted_intensively_with_primary_and_secondary_education_sectors_as_well._It_was_expected_that_the_centre_will_initiate_and_provide_leadership_for_educational_research_within_the_social_sciences_without_duplicating_the_work_being_undertaken_in_teachers'_training_departments._In_view_of_the_critical_role_of_education_in_initiating_social_change_in_independent_India,_the_social_scientists_could_not_remain_marginal_to_it_nor_treat_education_as_marginal._Therefore,_the_centre_was_located_in_the_faculty_of_social_sciences._The_university_also_made_an_exception_in_having_the_Centre_named_after_the_noted_educationist,_freedom_fighter_and_later_the_President_of_India,_Dr.Zakir_Husain. The_Centre_initiated_its_research_programme_in_1972_and_the_M.Phil/Ph.D_teaching_programme_in_July_1974_with_six_faculty_members_i.e._two_economists,_one_historian,_one_sociologist_and_two_psychologists._In_formulating_the_M.Phil_programme_in_educational_studies,_several_issues_were_involved._Firstly,_it_had_to_make_a_departure_from_the_existing_conceptualization_of_'education'_and_provide_a_broad_based_definition_within_the_social_sciences._Secondly,the_students_had_to_be_given_an_interdisciplinary_training_in_educational_research_while_still_retaining_their_roots_within_the_social_sciences._Thus,_the_problem_was_to_break_fresh_ground_and_yet_not_move_too_far_away_from_the_basic_training. The_career_prospects_of_the_students_were_also_an_important_consideration._Keeping_these_issues_in_view,_the_M.Phil_programme_offers_four_speciadistions,_namely,_sociology,_history,_psychology_and_economics,_according_to_the_expertise_of_the_faculty._However._while_admitting_students_with_background_in_history,economics,_sociology_and_psychology,_those_with_training_in_education,_other_allied_social_sciences_and_natural_sciences_were_also_accepted.
