Dr._Ambedkar_Chair_in_Sociology_was_set_up_by_Dr._Ambedkar_Foundation,_Ministry_of_Social_Justice_and_Empowerment,_Government_of_India,_New_Delhi_in_the_Centre_for_the_Study_of_Social_Systems,_School_of_Social_Sciences_in_1994._However,_it_became_operative_with_the_appointment_of_the_first_Chair_Professor_in_July_1995.
Broadly,_the_main_objective_of_the_Chair_is_to_“serve_as_centre_of_learning_and_research_not_only_on_the_subjects_concerning_Dr._Ambedkar’s_Works_and_Philosophy,_but_also_on_the_issues_concerning_the_socio-economic_and_cultural_life_of_Scheduled_Castes,_Scheduled_Tribes,_Minorities,_Backward_Classes_and_other_Weaker_Sections_of_the_Society”._In_pursuance_of_these_objectives,_the_Chair_“will_undertake_research_for_understanding_and_disseminating_the_ideas_of_Babasaheb_Ambedkar._These_objectives_shall_be_achieved_not_only_by_conducting_research_and_teaching,_but_also_by_organizing_Seminars,_Symposia,_Workshops_and_other_similar_academic_activities”.
