Professor_Pranav_N._Desai served_the_Centre_as_a_Professor_and_the_Chairperson_from_April_1997_till_June_2017._He_was_engaged_in_teaching_analysis_in_science_and_technology_policy_and_technology_futures_analysis._He_received_his_PhD_in_science_policy_studies_in_1985_from_JNU._He_had_conducted_research_in_diverse_areas_of_science_policy,_including_emerging_technologies,_intellectual_property_rights,_energy_and_environment-related_issues._He_specialises_in_science,_technology,_and_international_affairs._Some_of_his_publications_include Science,_Technology_and_International_Cooperation (1997),_and Science,_Technology,_Coastal_Zone_Management_and_Policy (2003)._He_was_the_founder_Director of_the JNU-STEPS_Centre_South_Asia_Sustainability_Hub_and_Knowledge_Network, and Transdisciplinary_Research_Cluster_on_Sustainability_Studies (JNU_TRCSS).

Professor_V._V._Krishna served_the_Centre_as_a_Professor_in_Science_Policy_and_the_Chairperson_from_September_1997_till_August_2016._He_obtained_PhD_from_the_University_of_Wollongong,_Australia_and_had_more_than_30_years_of_research,_teaching_and_consultancy_experience_in_science_and_technology_policy_studies,_history_and_sociology_of_science_and_technology,_innovation_studies_and_science,_technology_and_developing_world_in_leading_academic_and_research_institutions_in_India,_Australia,_Singapore,_China_and_Canada._He_held_visiting_faculty_positions_at_the_National_University_of_Singapore;_McGill_University,_Montreal,_Canada;_Maison_des_Science_De_l_Homme,_Paris;_United_Nations_University,_Japan;_Western_Sydney_University,_Sydney_and_Tsinghua_University,_Beijing._Over_the_years,_he_published_over_40_papers_and_five_books_which_include: Science,_Technology_and_Diffusion_of_Knowledge:_Innovation_Systems_in_Asia-Pacific (Edward_Elgar_2007); Scientific_Communities_in_the_Developing_Countries (Sage_1997)._His_latest_book_is_on Universities_in_the_National_Innovation_Systems:_Experiences_from_Asia_Pacific (Routledge_2017)_He_is_Editor-in-Chief_of_ranked_international_journal Science,_Technology_and_Society (Sage)._He_was_member_of_various_expert_committees_and_been_consultant_at_UNESCO,_OECD,_ILO_and_other_international_agencies._He_contributed_to_World_Science_Report_1998_and_UNESCO_Science_Report_2005,_and_to_the_ILO_in_2001_for_its_programme_on_the_informal_sector._He_served_as_expert_on_European_Research_Council’s_Grand_Challenges_and_European_Union,_Brussels,_based_networks_on_research_and_innovation_policies_since_1990s._He_is_currently_Professorial_Fellow,_FASS_at_the_University_of_New_South_Wales,_Sydney,_Australia.

Dr._Rohan_D’Souza_served_the_Centre_as_an_Assistant_Professor_from_September_2003_till_March_2015._He_is_the_author_of_Drowned_and_Dammed:_Colonial_Capitalism_and_Flood_control_in_Eastern_India_(2006)._His_edited_books_include_The_British_Empire_and_the_Natural_World:_Environmental_Encounters_in_South_Asia_(2011),_and_Environment,_Technology_and_Development:_Critical_and_Subversive_Essays_(2012). _He_had_held_postdoctoral_fellowships_at_Yale_University_and_the_University_of_California,_Berkeley._He_was_also_a_Senior_Research_Associate_at_the_Centre_for_World_Environmental_History_(University_of_Sussex)_and_Visiting_Fellow_at_the_Resources_Management_Asia-Pacific_(Australian_National_University)._He_is_presently_an_Associate_Professor_at_the_Graduate_School_of_Asian_and_African_Area_Studies,_in_University_of_Tokyo,_Japan.

Prof._Ashok_Parthasarathi (b._1940_–_d._2019)_served_the_Centre_as_a_Professor_from_February_2000_till_July_2005._He_served_as_a_Chairperson_of_the_Centre_from_15th_August_2000_to_31st_July_2002._He_was_physicist_and_electronics_engineer_and_a_leading_S&T_policymaker,_planner_and_analyst._He_had_a_Master's_Degree_in_Radio_Astronomy_from_the_University_of_Cambridge_in_the_UK_and_had_worked_on_S&T_policy_research_at_MIT,_USA._He_was_Special_Assistant_for_S&T_in_the_PMO_of_the_late_Prime_Minister_Indira_Gandhi_over_1970-75,_a_position_no_one_had_held_either_before_or_after_him._His_commitments_to_the_promotion_of_S&T_and_their_applications_to_the_development_of_security_of_the_nation_have_been_acknowledged_by_many_and_have_led_him_to_hold_important_positions_in_the_Government_of_India_–_former_Secretary_in_the_Department_of_Scientific_and_Industrial_Research_(DSIR),_the_Department_of_Electronics_(DoE)_and_the_Ministry_of_New_and_Renewable_Energy_(MNRE)._Prof._Parthasarathi_was_widely_known_internationally._He_had_participated_in_major_UN_S&T-related_Conferences_(of_UNCTAD,_UNIDO,_UNESCO,_UNESCAP_and_WIPO)_as_the_Government_of_India_representative,_and_undertaken_several_studies_for_a_number_of_UN_Agencies_on_various_S&T_policy_planning_and_management_issues._He_was_a_member_of_the_Research_Advisory_Committee_of_the_Planning_Commission_and_of_the_“High-level_National_Task_Force_on_the_Development_of_India_as_a_Knowledge_Society”_chaired_by_the_Deputy_Chairman,_Planning_Commission._He_was_also_the_first_Indian_to_be_elected_as_a_Member_of_the_Governing_Board_of_The_South_Centre_in_Geneva,_set_up_by_the_late_Julius_Nyerere,_Founder_President_of_Tanzania._He_had_published_over_100_papers_(including_media_articles)_on_issues_of_S&T_policy,_planning_and_management;_prepared_major_reports_on_transfer_of_technology_and_technology_policy_for_UNCTAD_in_Geneva_and_ESCAP_in_Bangkok._He_was_involved_in_establishment_of_different_public_sector_companies_in_electronics_sector_making_hi-tech_electronic_products_ranging_from_microchips_to_optic-fibre_and_satellite-based_communication_systems._Prof._Parthasarathi's_contribution_to_the_development_of_the_defence_electronics_sector_had_been_widely_acknowledged_as_had_been_his_contribution_to_solar_electric_systems._He_died_on_12th_August_2019,_at_the_age_of_79_years._Some_of_the_important_books_written_or_edited_by_him_include: Technology_at_the_Core:_Science_and_Technology_with_Indira_Gandhi (2010); GP:_1912-1995 (2018); Pugwash_on_Self-reliance (1977); Scientific_Cooperation_for_Development:_Search_for_New_Directions (1980)._There_is_a_Festschrift_volume_published_in_honor_of_him_titled A_Lifetime_of_Moulding_Technology_and_Science_Policy_in_India:_A_Festschrift_in_Honour_of_Professor_Ashok_Parthasarathi (2017). 

Prof._A._Vasantha

Prof._A._Vasantha served_the_Centre_as_a_Professor._Her_research_interests_include:_history_of_science_and_technology_in_India;_science_policy_studies,_besides_other_topics._She_wrote_a_number_of_papers_and_book_chapters_on_science_policy_issues_and_compiled_a_Biographical_Dictionary_of_Scientists_of_India,_1800-1900._She_supervised_a_number_of_PhD_and_M.Phil._scholars_at_the_Centre.

Prof._B.V._Rangarao

Prof._B.V._Rangarao_taught_at_the_Centre,_and_served_as_Chairperson._His_research_interests_include:_science_policy_studies,_besides_other_topics._He_wrote_a_number_of_papers_and_book_chapters_on_science_policy_issues._He_was_a_regular_contributor_to_the_Economic_&_Political_Weekly._He_contributed_two_books,_namely_Social_Perspective_of_Development_of_Science_and_Technology_in_India_(1982),_and_Scientific_Research_in_India:_An_Analysis_of_Publications_(1969)._He_supervised_a_number_of_PhD_and_M.Phil._scholars_at_the_Centre.

Prof._Dhirendra_Sharma

Prof._Dhirendra_Sharma_(b._07_June_1932,_d._20_June_2024)_taught_at_the_Centre,_and_served_as_Chairperson._He was_a_voice_of_Resistance_from_his_days_in_the_US,_where_he_taught_Philosophy_and_Asian_Studies_at_the_Michigan_State_University_(1965-1971)._While_in_the_US_he_played_a_leading_role_in_the_anti-Vietnam_War_movement._During_1975_-1977,_he_was_actively_involved_with_the_resistance_movement_against_Emergency._He_wrote_five_books_titled_"India's_Nuclear_Estate"_(1983),_"The_Indian_Atom:_Power_&_Proliferation_-_a_Documentary_History_of_Nuclear_Policies,_Development,_and_the_Critics,_1958-1986", "The_Janata_(People's)_Struggle:_The_Finest_Hour_of_the_Indian_People_(with_Underground_Documents,_Resistance_Literature_and_Correspondence_Relating_to_Advent_of_Janata_Party)"_(1977),_"The_American_Empire_Building:_A_Challenge_to_New_World_Order_-_a_Documentary_History_of_Imperial_Expansion_of_the_United_States_and_the_Critics,_1776-1991_(the_Gulf_War)_(1991), "The_Differentiation_Theory_of_Meaning_in_Indian_Logic"_(1969), besides_other_publications.

Dr._Mathieu_Quet_served_the_Centre_as_a_Visiting_Fellow_from_May_2015_till_April_2019. He_is_a_research_fellow_at_Institut_de_Recherche_pour_le_Développement_in_France._His_research_focuses_upon_pharmaceutical_flows_between_India_and_Kenya_and_upon_the_securitization_of_pharmaceutical_markets_in_a_context_of_shifting_industrial_geographies._More_broadly,_his_research_has_been_covering_issues_in_social_studies_of_science_and_technology,_analysing_the_entanglements_of_technology,_politics_and_society. Prof._Jayanta_Bandyapodhyay served_the_Centre_as_a_Visiting_Professor_from_January_2015_till_December_2015._He_was_a_Professor_at_Indian_Institute_of_Management_Calcutta_(IIMC)_during_1997-2012,_and_established_the_Centre_for_Development_and_Environment_Policy_at_IIMC._He_is_now_a_Distinguished_Fellow_at_the Observer_Research_Foundation,_Kolkata.

Prof. _Sujit_Bhattacharya_served_the_Centre_as_a_Visiting_Professor_from_August_2007_till_August_2009._He_is_presently_working_as_a_Chief_Scientist_in_the_CSIR-NIScPR_(earlier_known_as_CSIR-NISTADS)_and_also_a_Professor_in_the_Academy_of_Scientific_and_Innovative_Research_(AcSIR)._He_serves_as_the_Editor-in-Chief_of_the_Journal_of_Scientometric_Research_(indexed_with_the_Scopus,_ESCI,_and_Dimensions)._Some_his_notable_publications_include:_Policy_Perspective_on_Innovation_and_Sustainable_Development_(2017),_India_Science_Report,_Volume_III_(2015),_CEFIPRA_25_Years:_Strengthen_Scientific_Competence_&_Enable_Industrial_Competitiveness_of_Indo-French_S&T_Ecosystem_(2014),_India_Science_Report,_Volume_II_(2013),_Indian_Patenting_Activity_in_International_and_Domestic_Patent_System:_Contemporary_Scenario_(2006),_Emerging_Trends_in_Scientometrics_(1999),_Advanced_Telecommunications_in_India:_Regulation_and_Strategy_(1996)._He_was_awarded_PhD_from_Indian_Institute_of_Technology_Delhi.

Prof. _Sachin_Chaturvedi_served_the_Centre_as_a_Visiting_Professor_from_January_2011_till_December_2012._He_is_currently_Director_General_at_the_Research_and_Information_System_for_Developing_Countries_(RIS),_a_New_Delhi-based_Think-Tank._He_works_on_issues_related_to_development_economics,_involving_development_finance,_SDGs_and_South-South_Cooperation,_apart_from_trade,_investment_and_innovation_linkages_with_special_focus_on_WTO. _Currently,_he_is_also_Vice_Chairman,_Atal_Bihari_Vajpayee_Institute_of_Good_Governance_and_Policy_Analysis;_and_ex-officio_Vice_Chairman_of_Madhya_Pradesh_State_Policy_and_Planning_Commission._He_is_also_Member,_Board_of_Governors,_Reserve_Bank_of_India._He has_been_part_of_several_important_initiatives_of_the_Government_of_India_and_takes_keen_interest_in_transforming_economic_policymaking_towards_integrated_and_evidence_based_approaches._He_is_one_of_the_foremost_commentators_on_India’s_external_sector_economic_engagements_and_partnerships._He_has_authored/edited_more_than_22_books,_apart_from_contributing_several_chapters_in_the_edited_volumes_and_also_publishing_several_research_articles_in_prestigious_journals. _He_is_on_the_Editorial_Board_of_several_journals_including_the_South_Asian_Economic_Journal,_IDS_Bulletin,_Sussex,_UK_among_others. _His_book_“The_Logic_of_Sharing_–_Indian_Approach_to_South-South_Cooperation”_has_been_acclaimed_internationally_as_one_of_the_best_volumes_on_international_development_cooperation._He_was_also_the_‘Global_Justice_Fellow’_at_the_MacMillan_Center_for_International_Affairs_at_Yale_University_(2009-2010)_and_has_served_as_a_Developing_Country_Fellow_at_the_University_of_Amsterdam_(1996),_Visiting_Fellow_at_the_Indian_Institute_of_Advanced_Studies,_Shimla_(2003),_and_Visiting_Scholar_at_the_German_Development_Institute_(2007)._ 

Prof. _Dinesh_K_Abrol_served_the_Centre_as_a_Visiting_Professor_from_July_2013_till_May_2015._He_earlier_worked_as_a_Chief_Scientist_in_the_CSIR-NISTADS,_and_also_as_a_Professor_in_the_Institute_for_Studies_in_Industrial_Development,_New_Delhi._He_is_currently_associated_with_the_Transdisciplinary_Research_Cluster_on_Sustainability_Studies_(JNU-TRCSS)

Dr. Malti_Goel served_the_Centre_as_a_CSIR_Emeritus_Scientist_from_August_2009_till_March 2013_with_the_project_titled_"Clean_Energy_in_India:_R&D_Challenges_and_Opportunities"._She_is_Former_Adviser,_DST,_in_the_Ministry_of_Science_&_Technology,_Government_of_India_and_is_a_climate_change_expert.

Prof. K.J._Joseph served_the_Centre_as_a_Visiting_Professor_from_January_2001_till_July_2003._He_had_been_a_Post-Doctoral_Researcher_at_the_Economic_Growth_Center,_Yale_University._He_is_presently_a_Professor_at_Centre_for_Development_Studies,_Trivandrum,_India._His_publications_include:_"Industry_under_Economic_Liberalization:_The_Case_of_Indian_Electronics",_Sage_Publications,_1997;_"Information_Technology,_Innovation_System_and_Trade_Regime_in_Developing_Countries:_India_and_the_ASEAN",_Palgrave_Macmillan,_2006;_"Growth_of_ICT_and_ICT_for_Development:_Realities_of_the_Myths_of_the_Indian_Experience",_United_Nations_University,_2002._He_was_a_professor_in_the Centre_for_Development_Studies_(CDS),_Thiruvananthapuram,_Kerala,_and_presently_working_as_Director_of_the_Gulati_Institute_of_Finance_and_Taxation,_Kerala.

Prof._Nasir_Tyabji served_the_Centre_as_a_Senior_Fellow_(Research)_from_October_2000_till_April_2005._Previously_he_held_the_Reserve_Bank_of_India_chair_Professorship_(1990-1994),_and_a_Fellowship_at_the_Madras_Institute_of_Development_Studies_(1982-1990)._Dr._Tyabji_worked_with_the_Indian_Institute_of_Public_Administration_(1973-1980),_Administrative_Staff_College_of_India_(1980-82),_and_Nehru_Memorial_Museum_and_Library_(1994-1999)._He_was_educated_at_the_Institute_of_Science,_Mumbai_(Mathematics_and_Physics),_New_College,_Oxford_(Engineering_Science_and_Economics),_and_Jawaharlal_Nehru_University_(PhD)._He_had_written_three_books_titled:_"Small_Industries_Policy_in_India",_Oxford_University_Press,_1997;_"Colonialism,_Chemical_Technology_and_Industry_in_Southern_India",_Oxford_University_Press,_1995;_"Industrialisation_and_Innovation:_The_Indian_Experience",_Sage,_2000.
