Report_of_the_National_Para-Athletics_Meet_held_at_Panchkula,_Haryana_from_26_to_30.3.16

Nidhi_Mishra_of_M.Phil-2nd_semester,_School_of_Social_Sciences_won_4_medals_(B-1_category)_in_the_National_Para-Athletics_Meet_2015-16_held_at_Panchkula,_Haryana_from_26_to_30.3.2016_-_Gold_medals_in_Shot_Put_and_Discus_throw_each,_silver_medal_in_100m,_silver_medal_in_4x100m_relay._In_continuation_of_her_previous_year's_performance,_this_year_too_she_not_only_won_3_gold_medals_in_the_8th_Delhi_state_Para_athletics_Meet_27-28_Feb._2016_but_also_qualified_the_National_Qualifying_Standards_to_be_eligible_for_National_participation._Sports_Office_provided_her_all_possible_technical_and_logistic_support._We_wish_her_success_in_her_quest_for_ensuing_Paralympics_in_Rio,_Brazil_this_year.

The_university_provides_sports_facilities_in_various_games_of_which_most_are_centralized_and_some_at_the_hostels._The_following_games_are_available_in_the_university_and_are_controlled_&_organized_by_the_sports_office_which_is_located_in_the_sports_stadium,_beyond_the_Aravali_Guest_House.

Athletics,_Badminton,_Cricket,_Chess,_Football,_Mountaineering_and_Trekking,_Volleyball,_Taekwondo,_Table_Tennis,_Tennis,_Weight-Power_Lifting,_Bench_Press,_Body_Building_and_Yoga.

The_University_Sports_Committee_is_comprised_of_the_Sports_Club_Conveners_Sports_Coaches/_Instructors_and_JNUSU_Sports_Councilor_beside_the_SAC_members._SAC_members_can_take_important_and_urgent_decisions_amongst_themselves_as_and_when_deemed_necessary.

The_Sports_Office_also_has_the_support_of_an_Assistant,_4_grounds_men,_contractual_computer_operator,_tennis_marker_and_other_staff_which_includes_staff_from_the_horticulture_and_sanitation.

The_sports_programs_are_run_under_the_prevailing_rules_and_norms._The_current_Sports_Administrative_Committees_tenure_is_of_2_years_w.e.f._25.2.2016._The_SAC_meets_periodically_to_plan_and_take_stock_of_its_programs.

The_Sports_office_has_an_Assistant_Director,_Physical_Education_as_In-charge._The_office_also_has_the_support_of_Assistant,_Junior_Assistant_besides_the_ground_and_other_staff_which_includes_grounds_men_and_the_staff_from_the_horticulture_and_the_sanitation.

At_the_beginning_of_each_academic_year_in_August-September_the_Convener_and_joint_Convener_for_each_game_is_selected,_and_they_are_facilitated_by_sports_office_for_the_conduct_of_their_club_activities_all_through_the_year/session._The_Conveners_are_also_the_link_between_the_students_and_the_sports_office._Regular_practice_and_annual_competitions,_Inter_Hostel_and_Inter_School_competitions_are_held_each_year.

Facilities_for_coaching_and_instruction_are_available_in_weight_Lifting,_body_building_activities,_Taekwondo,_Tennis_and_Yoga_round_the_year._The_sports_office_makes_all_efforts_to_encourage_students_for_participating_in_sports_by_organizing_various_sports,_other_related_events_and the_participation_of_students_in_the_extra_murals_etc._with_the_help_of_the_respective_club_convener._As_per_the_requirements_the_sports_office_proposes_development_and_maintenance_of_sports_infrastructure_on_the_campus_to_the_concerned_section_of_the_university._The_Sports_complex_comprises_of_a_Sports_Stadium_with_large_open_seating_for_spectators,_the_sports_office,_a_Yoga_hall,_Weight_Lifting_and_Power_Lifting_hall_and_open_space_for_games_like_Cricket,_Football, _Athletics_&_Volleyball_and_two_clay_tennis_courts_with_a_practice_tennis_wall_for_beginners.

Apart_from_facilities_for_fitness_and_games_at_the_Sports_Complex,_some_indoor_sports_equipment_is_also_made_available_to_each_hostel_like_Table_Tennis,_Chess_and_Carom_as_well_as_facilities_for_outdoor_Badminton_and_Volleyball_in_many_hostels._Some_outdoor_fitness_apparatuses_like_horizontal_and_parallel_bars_are_being_installed_in_most_of_the_hostels._The_sports_office_also_organizes_clinics_and_workshops_and_in_the_past_has_covered_popular_and_relevant_topics_like_leadership_and_fitness_in_sports,_officiating_and_coaching_of_games_and_sports,_women_sports_festivals_and_sports_events_for_the_differently_able_JNU_community.

JNU_Cricket_Club

It_is_one_of_the_most_active_clubs_which_starts_practice_and_matches_from_early_September_and_go_on_till_the_end_of_the_following_May._Besides_net_practice_and_friendly_matches_the_club_regularly_organizes_Inter-School_and_Inter-Hostel_competitions_each_year,_beside_many_friendly_games_at_centre,_School_and_hostel_level_as_well_as_with_other_institutions_and_clubs._Depending_on_the_standard_of_the_players_the_JNU_team_participates_in_the_Inter_University_competition_and_has_also_successfully_organized_Inter-Institution_competitions_in_the_past.

JNU_Tennis_Club

The_club_currently_has_two_clay-courts_for_students_which_are_also_used_by_the_faculty_club._The_activities_are_organized_by_the_tennis_club_convener_with_the_help_of_the_sports_office._A_tennis_marker/coach_is_available_to_coach_the_beginners_and_the_faculty/staff_children_and_give_practice_to_the_students_under_the_guidance_of_the_sports_office._Annual_competitions_are_held_for_the_students_at_school/hostel_level_as_well_in_the_individual_events.

JNU_Athletics_Club

Athletic_Club_offers_facilities_for_practice_at_the_sports_stadium._The_club_annually_organizes_the_Athletic_meet_for_the_JNU_students_in_the_month_of_Feb-March._Athletics_coaching_is_available_throughout_the_year_by_the_Astt._Director_PE_who_has_specialization_in_the_track_and_field_events_and_fitness._The_club_occasionally_also_organizes_special_preparatory_coaching_camp_for_a_week_or_two_prior_to_the_Annual_Athletic_Meet_for_the_benefit_of_the_newcomers.

JNU_Badminton_Club

JNU_Badminton_Club_is_one_of_the_very_active_clubs_of_the_University._By_virtue_of_being_an_indoor_game_it_can_be_played_round_the_year._Apart_from_the_regular_daily_practice_sessions,_the_club_organizes_several_events_like-Training-cum-Coaching_Camp,_Annual_Championships_in_all_events,_Inter-School_and_Inter_Hostel_Tournament_(Men_&_Women),_Fresher's_tournament._Depending_on_the_standard_of_the_players_the_JNU_team_participates_in_the_Inter_University_competition_and_has_also_successfully_organized_Inter-Institution_competitions_in_the_past.

JNU_Mountaineering_&_trekking_Club

One_of_the_active_club_on_the_campus_the_JNU_Mountaineering_Club_has_regular_high_altitude_Summer_and_Autumn_trekking_programs_in_the_Himalayan_foot_hills._Treks_are_organized_in_desert_also._For_fun_lovers_looking_for_easy_outings_there_are_moonlight_walks_and_cave_walks._The_club_displays_its_achievements_through_regular_photo_exhibitions_and_for_all_adventure_lovers_there_are_documentary_–_movie_shows.

JNU_Weight_lifting,_Power_lifting_&_Body_building_Club

The_club_is_located_at_the_sports_complex,_JNU._The_specific_fitness_and_body_building_classes_plus_sports_nutrition_counseling_and_coaching_classes_are_organized_under_the_supervision/guidance_of_ADPE_in_the_evening_from_5.30_pm_to_6.30_pm_on_all_working_days._Facilities_are_available_to_both_men_&_women_students._The_club_has_produced_some_promising_lifters_in_the_last_two_decades._The_students_in_the_past_have_given_exemplary_performance_by_winning_positions_at_state_and_national_level_competitions.

JNU_Yoga_Kendra

The_club_which_was_established_under_the_UGC_Scheme_of_"Promotion_of_Yoga_Education_and_Practices_in_Universities"_in_February_1999_is_located_in_the_sports_complex_and_is_open_to_the_entire_University._The_classes_are_held_both_in_the_morning_and_evening._Annual_yoga_competition_is_held_both_for_the_boys_and_the_girls_in_different_age_categories.

JNU_Taekwondo_Club

The_Club_runs_its_activities_in_the_Badminton_Hall_of_the_Students_Activity_Centre_(SAC)._The_timings_of_the_club_are_5_pm_to_6_pm_for_beginners_and_children_and_6_pm_to_7_pm_for_the_advance_level_players,_Monday_through_Saturday.

JNU_Volleyball_Club

The_facility_of_Volleyball_is_available_both_at_the_sports_stadium_complex_and_at_some_of_the_hostels._It's_a_popular_sports_activity_and_the_club_organizes_competitions_at_Inter-Hostel,_Inter-School_level_and_friendly_matches_in_Volleyball_each_year._The_club_has_also_participated_in_the_Inter_University_competition_in_the_past.

JNU_Football_Club

This_club_organizes_the_Inter-School_and_Inter-Hostel_competitions_in_the_sports_complex._Occasionally_friendly_matches_and_Inter_Institutional_competitions_are_also_organized_at_the_initiative_of_the_club.

JNU_Table_Tennis_Club

The_clubs_primarily_function_at_various_hostels_where_facilities_are_provided_for_the_residents._The_convener,_depending_on_the_interest_and_popularity_of_the_game_organizes_Inter_Hostel,_Inter_School_and_Individual_championships_in_all_events_annually.

JNU_Chess_Club

JNU_has_some_promising_chess_players_who_have_won_laurels_at_the_Inter_–institutional_extramural_tournaments._The_club_primarily_functions_at_various_hostels_where_facilities_are_provided_for_the_residents._The_convener,_depending_on_the_interest_and_popularity_of_the_game_organizes_open_championships.

The_sports_office_makes_all_efforts_to_popularize_and_introduce_new_sports_on_campus_as_well._The_sports_nutrition,_physical_fitness,_sports_injuries_management,_career_counseling_in_sports_and_sports_specific_skill_development_programs_are_held_on_need_basis_in_groups_and_individual._In_this_direction_sports_festival_&_Sports_Awareness_Programs,_programs_for_the_otherwise_abled,_Inter_Institutional_and_friendly_competitions_are_mooted_and_organized_periodically_to_give_a_boost_to_the_JNU_sports_and_games._Besides_worthy_use_of_leisure_time_and_physical_and_mental_fitness_sports_and_games_activities_are_planned_to_give_joyful_experience_to_JNU_students_and_sports_leadership_qualities._Faculty,_staff_and_their_families_are_also_accommodated_in_sports_wherever_it_is_possible.

At_the_end_of_the_season_the_Annual_Sports_Presentation_is_held_in_end-March_and_all_prizes_are_distributed_for_which_some_sports_luminary_is_invited._Dignitaries_of_the_University_also_attend_the_program.
