CPS celebrating 50 years

Welcome_to_the_Centre_for_Political_Studies._Founded_in_1971,_it_has_an_outstanding_reputation_for_academic_excellence._The_Centre_launched_ita_M.Phil./Ph.D._programme_with_15_students_in_the_very_first_year_of_its_existence._The_MA_program_was_launched_in_the_following_academic_year._In_keeping_with_the_spirit_of_the_JNU_Act_of_1966,_the_Centre_for_Political_Studies_came_to_incorporate_a_strong_interdisciplinary_emphasis_in_the_structure_and_design_of_its_syllabi._Since_then,_the_Centre_for_Political_Studies_has_become_one_of_the_largest_Centres_of_the_School_of_Social_Sciences_drawing_students_from_all_parts_of_the_country_as_well_as_abroad.The_Centre_offers_degrees_both_at_the_Masters_and_the_Doctorate_levels._It_represents_all_the_major_streams_of_Political_Science_as_a_discipline,_including_Political_Theory,_Philosophy_and_Thought,_Indian_Politics,_Comparative_Politics,_International_Relations,_and_Public_Administration._The_courses_taught_at_the_Masters_level_equip_the_students_with_various_ideas,_concepts,_analytical_tools_and_approaches_to_the_discipline._By_the_end_of_the_last_semester,_students_are_in_a_position_to_choose_a_career_based_on_their_Masters_training_and/or_develop_an_interest_to_pursue_research_on_a_topic_or_theme_in_a_particular_stream_of_the_discipline.There_is_an_excellent_blend_of_young,_mid-career_and_senior_level_faculty_at_the_Centre._Together,_these_faculty_members_present_expertise_in_all_the_streams_of_the_discipline.They_teach_the_students_and_guide_different_researchers_in_their_respective_areas_of_specialization_using_a_multidisciplinary_approaches.The_all-Indian_and_international_composition_of_students,_coming_from_diverse_social,_regional,_cultural_and_economic_backgrounds,_provides_a_unique_exposure_conducive_to_learning_about_each_other_and_the_rich_diversity_of_our_society_well_beyond_the_classroom_teaching.Different_kinds_of_fellowships_are_made_available_for_students_coming_from_relatively_poorer_sections_of_the_society_who_show_a_commitment_and_passion_to_pursue_higher_studies.
