p{ text-align:justify; line-height:_19px; font-size:14px; margin-bottom:_10px_!important; } List_of_courses_being_offered_for_B.A._and_M.A._course_for_Winter_Semester_2025 The_Centre_of_Arabic_and_African_Studies_(CAAS)_is_a_part_of_School_of_Language,_Literature_and_Culture_Studies._It_was_started_in_1971_as_CAAL_–_(Center_of_African_and_Asian_languages_which_included_Chinese,_Japanese,_Korean,_Persian_and_Arabic_Languages)._Over_the_years,_each_language_grew_up_to_become_an_independent_centre.By_1996,_CAAL_included_only_Arabic_and_Persian_languages_and_in_the_same_year,_CAAL_was_bifurcated_into_two_separate_Centres_“Centre_of_Arabic_and_African_Studies”_(CAAS);_and_“Centre_of_Persian_and_Central_Asian_Studies”_(CP&CAS). Conforming_to_the_larger_goals_and_policies_of_the_university,_CAAS_offers_various_programs_in_Arabic,_language,_literature,_culture_and_history_besides_optional_courses_in_Hebrew_and_Swahili_languages._The_centre_has_been_able_to_attract_students_not_only_from_different_corners_of_India_but_also_from_foreign_countries_such_asChina,_Japan,_Turkey_and_even_from_Arabic_speaking_countries_such_as_Egypt_and_Yemen.._The_Centre_of_Arabic_&_African_Studies_(CAAS)_offers_full_time_three_year_B.A._(H),_two_year_M.A._and_five_year_M.Phil/Ph.D._programmes_in_Arabic_Language,_Literature_and_Culture._The_courses_have_been_meticulously_designed_and_regularly_updated_to_keep_abreast_with_the_changing_times_and_their_requirements._The_salient_feature_of_these_programmes_is_an_intensive_specialised_training_in_Arabic_Language_with_particular_focus_on_developing_communication_skills,_oral,_written_as_well_as_translation_and_interpretation. Apart_from_the_language_training,_the_students_are_gradually_exposed_to_and_provided_deep_insight_into_the_cultural_and_literary_heritage_of_the_Arab_World_through_both_classical_and_contemporary_texts._In_recent_years,_the_Centre_has_emerged_as_one_of_the_most_prominent_centres_among_all_the_Indian_Universities_especially_in_the_field_of_modern_Arabic_Language_and_specialisation_in_its_literature,_translation_and_interpretation. Expanding_its_scope_of_studies_the_Centre_introduced_another_Semitic_language_–_Hebrew._Currently_the_course_is_being_offered_as_an_optional_subject_to_the_students_of_JNU._The_course_attracted_students_from_diverse_academic_backgrounds_and_Schools._Research_Scholars_from_School_of_International_Studies,_School_of_Social_Science,_and_Philosophy_etc_have_attended_Hebrew_classes_benefitting_one_and_all.. Among_the_African_Languages_the_Centre_has_introduced_Swahili_Language._Effective_from_Monsoon_Semester,_2014,_an_optional_course_in_Swahili_language_was_started_by_the_centre._Eminent_linguist_from_Uppsala_University,_Sweden,_founded_the_Swahili_Language_program_and_taught_for_a_year. NEW_THRUST_AREAS The_Centre_is_trying_to_introduce_a)_Capsule_course_in_speaking_Arabic_spreading_over_45_working_days_under_self_finance_scheme_b)_Certificate_and_Diploma_in_Arabic_subject_to_approval_of_the_Academic_Council_and_provision_of_extra_teaching_hands.
