The_Centre_for_Media_Studies_(CMS)_aims_to_emerge_as_a_prime_academic_location_for_the_development_of_a_critical_understanding_of_media_and_its_engagement_with_society,_polity,_and_the_economy_in_India.
Envisaged_primarily_as_a_center_for_research_and_academic_study,_it_concentrates_on_developing_a_critical_understanding_of_the_role_of_the_media_in_contemporary_times._The_media's_functioning,_and_its_intersections_with_contemporary_society,_polity,_economy,_and_culture_are_primary_areas_of_its_research_concerns._The_Centre_also_engages_itself_with_the_constituting_and_determining_factors_of_media_such_as_its_social,_regional,_and_language_base,_commercialization_and_the_profit_motive,_institutionalization,_and_organizational_scale,_media_institutions_and_media_houses,_infotainment_content,_and_search_for_alternative_niches_through_new_media,_etc..
CMS_promotes_interdisciplinary_approaches_to_study_and_assess_the_evolution,_role,_relevance,_and_impact_of_media_in_India._Towards_this_purpose,_it_engages_closely_with_scholars_working_in_this_field_in_allied_schools_and_institutions._Taking_cognizance_of_the_roles_that_media_structures_as_well_as_how_these_structures_are_embedded_in_society,_play_in_defining_its_functions_of_legitimation_and_critique,_the_areas_with_which_the_Centre_will_engage_in_research_and_teaching_activities_include:
